Writing Tips and Ideas

01 October 2014

  HAPPY OCTOBER!!!

Hello! So a couple weeks ago, I was at this little writing conference thingy. Well, I guess you could hardly call it that, there were maybe like fifteen people, and this author was giving us a tips and ideas, and I was taking notes, so I thought I'd post them on here, just for the fun of it, you know? So I don't know if they're really help you or anything, but, well, it may make a interesting read? Anyways, I hope you like this post and if you have any posts that you would like me to do, or post ideas, please feel fee to comment them down below and I'll try get  right on it :)

ALL PICTURES IN THIS POST ARE MINE. DO NOT STEAL.

◘ Make a character style sheet. As in where you have down all of your characters and make a list of all their characteristics.

◘ The first chapter or the first few pages are the most critical, so don't be afraid to change them numerous times.

◘  Notice and write down things about people. For example, if you have a neighbor who's quite a character, jot down things about him that you think one of your characters may have.

◘ Don't just focus on your Main Character (MC) , rather try to have interesting things happen to the other characters as well as the MC.

◘ If you write a children's book, be sure to include pictures!

◘ Even if it's not a children's book, take pictures of places and things you think may relate to the story. Even if you don't use it as illustrations, you can always use it as inspiration.

◘ Pray about your story and ask the Lord for guidance.

◘ Pray about your storyline especially.

◘ You need a fresh mind to write interesting, fresh things.

◘ Stop and take breaks.

◘ Book covers are especially important, because that's what draws the reader's attention.

◘ Have friends proofread  your book and tell them to give you honest reviews on what they think.

◘ Asking people questions is key.

◘ Look for story ideas in every day life. Sometimes the things that happen to us are the most interesting!

◘ Get details and characteristics from people around you. For example, perhaps one of your friends has this unique nervous laugh, put that in for one of your characters!

So did you guys like those tips? I hope so.... Anyways, on a different note, I took those pictures (do you know great it is to write in all caps "Do not steal" ? lol) in the springtime, and right now as the leaves fall and cloudy mornings emerge, it's sad to see summer leave. *cries* Yeah, well, life goes on. Winter is also a great season, so I'll probably go outside and get some more pictures this winter. But last winter I took a crazy amount of photos, which you guys know since I dumped load and after load of photo shoots on you guys. :) XD. Well, my camera broke earlier this year, so, if I get it fixed, I'll be back taking pictures for sure :)

So I hope you liked this post, and I'll see you next time!
Thanks for reading and God bless <3

  1. Love these tips! Monday I started writing a new book because I had gotten this amazing story idea over the summer and there were these writing tips at the end of a book and the author said to "word vomit" and don't look back on what you just wrote and edit it as well. I always edit while I write, so I have a lot more written then I have ever had for any of the books I have written, so I am proud. :) I hope it goes well! And I hope to see more of your story here soon as well, it was so good! :D

  2. I love writing conferences/camps/classes. To be able to hear other (wiser) writers' tricks and tips is always so helpful. I especially liked #4.... Had never thought of it like that.... Huh. Good post Autumn! :)
