THOU GREAT I AM
Fill my mind with elevation and
grandeur at the thought of a Being
with whom one day is a as a thousand
years,
and a thousand years as one day,
a mighty God, who, amidst the lapse of worlds,
and the revolutions of empires,
feels no variableness,
but is glorious in immortality.
may I rejoice that, while men die, the
Lord lives;
that, while all creatures are broken
reeds,
empty cisterns
fading flowers,
withering grass,
HE is Rock of Ages, the Fountain
of living waters.
turn my heart from vanity,
from dissatisfactions,
from uncertainties of the present state,
to an eternal interest in Christ.
let me remember that life is short and
unforeseen,
and is only an opportunity for
usefulness;
give me a holy avarice to redeem the
time,
to awake at every call to charity and
piety,
so that I may feed the hungry,
clothe the naked,
instruct the ignorant,
reclaim the vicious,
forgive the offender,
diffuse the gospel,
show neighbourly love to all.
let me live a life of self-distrust,
dependence on thyself,
mortification,
crucifixion,
prayer.
-- the
valley of vision
heyyy guys :) i hope you all had a very merry christmas yesterday. i've gotta admit though, it really did not feel like christmas outside yesterday. it was just rainy and damp and sort of warm. but, all in all, it was a good day. we made tiramisu for a special treat, and gahhhh. that stuff is literally so delicous ♥
anyways, i got this book called The Valley of Vision and yeah. it's epic. it's a collection of puritan prayers and while it's definitely not in modern day slang-filled English, it's beautiful. it's poetry expressing the deepest feelings of love and adoration to God. that prayer up there that you probably just read was one of the ones in there, and yeah. is it not gorgeous? I love reading one of them every day before bed because it's so comforting and brings me back down to reality. yeah. so it's pretty much staple.
anyhowwwww....yeah. can you guys legitly believe that it's gonna be 2016 in less than a week? oh man, that's heavy stuff. I guess later on this week I should do a 2015 wrap-up post and fun stuff like that. it seems like I just finished doing my 2014 wrap-ups and woah. I mean. where did the time go? life. life. life. life.
also, yeah, I have one more VERY important question for you all. you guys are my friends, so I really want to know what you think. Autumn's Readings & Writings has been the title of this blog since I started it wayyy back in early 2012/late 2011, and even when I was trying to come up with a name for this here blog, I sort of figured that "Autumn's Readings & Writings" was kinda lame and maybe in the future I would change it. well, I sort of proved the procrastinator in me. and guys, I was thinking of blog names that IF I would change the title of my blog i'd want to change it to. but what do you guys think? do you think it'd be good if i'd change the title, or is Autumn's Readings & Writings good? if I would change it, do you have any ideas? as I was thinking, the top one that I liked was "Touch the Sky". It means so much, and I just love the meaning behind it.
anyway, well have a beautiful day and smile. life is amazing and beautiful ^_^
autumn
I absolutely love that poem - it's gorgeous. I may have to see about getting that book myself.
ReplyDeleteAWWWW YESSSS TIRAMISU. I love that stuff. Mmmmm :)
Oh man you're right. We have less than a week left in 2015!
I like AR&W, but if you're not happy with it you should definitely change it. Touch the Sky is nice. It sounds a bit mainstream, but if you like it then go for it! An idea I've bounced around for if I ever rename my blog (which I don't think I ever would - I love the name!) is "Seven Seas" (sort of if your theme is wanderlust/finding yourself or something similar). Hope you find a good name!

yeah, i love it. that book is so amazing. i mean, they're all like so true and meaningful <3 you should!
DeleteAWW YESS. but seriously, like i'm like the only one in my family who's been going at eating it like....non-stop.
Thank you so much! Yeah, that's the thing. Personally, i just love the feel that "touch the sky" gives....but idk. "seven seas" is a really cool name too ^_^
That's a beautiful prayer/poem! I'll have to look into that book.
ReplyDeleteI like the title "Autumn's Readings and Writings" but it's up to you if you want to change it. Possible names could be "Wanderlust", "Autumnasia", "Dream of ____ (insert something you like, i.e. clouds, love, peace, etc.). Hope that helps. :)
PS: This is the blog name generator I used: http://www.spinxo.com/blog-names
You totally should, Gloria :) i'm so glad i have that book. it's amazing.
Deleteoooh, yeah, those are beautiful names <3 autumnasia is so creative! yeah, i stumbled across that website too, it's pretty interesting ^_^ some of the ideas it spins out are reallllly, well, creative ;) thank you so much!
I love that first photo. <3 So pretty.
ReplyDelete-Leah
thank you so much, leah <3 i'm glad you liked it!
DeleteThe poem is lovely--very thoughtful, too! I love 'Autumn's Readings and Writings', it gets straight to the point of what your blog's about. You'd have brand recognition too if you keep your name. But Touch the Sky has its charm. Also, I like Gloria's 'Autumnasia". Any play on words with 'Autumn' is golden. :)
ReplyDeletei agree with ya totally :) that's one of the things i liked about AR&W....it's what my blog is. honestly, it would be so hard to actually get used to calling this blog something else if i would change it. wow. yeah. you're right...i sort of feel people who might've come here a long time ago that decide to come again maybe might not remember it if i would change the title, but yeah. it's a tough choice. yeah, but the thing with that is that since autumn is my pen name, i sort of wanted to take that off the title, but idk. thank you so much, dear jo!
DeleteAh the struggle of having a blog name but wanting to change it even though you've already built an empire around it. Maybe 2016 calls for a name change though? These photos are gorgeous.

ReplyDeleteTouch the Sky is a beautiful blog name, as is the poem you posted.

I wish you a wonderful New Year, dear!
aah, thanks Jordy :) i personally love your blog name. Fox in the Woodlands is so creative and pretty....and Hidden was really just had so much meaning in one word. <3
Deletesame to you!
okay wow, thank you for posting this poem from the book. I love that you introduced it to us :) That was incredibly beautiful and I love the truths found in it.
ReplyDeleteI especially love this part: "turn my heart from vanity,
from dissatisfactions,
from uncertainties of the present state,
to an eternal interest in Christ."
It really is a struggle that I've been dealing with...how can I focus my heart on Christ instead of so many of the things that consume my thoughts?
Plus....I love hte idea of "touch the sky", I really love those nature themed titles :) kuddos to you for coming up with it...I want a new blog title too, and I can't think of anything :(
you are truly welcome <3
Deletei love that portion too, it speaks volumes.
amen, sista. that is honestly one of my biggest struggles too.

oh, dear you. the poem basically sums up my prayer for the new year. "turn my heart from vanity...let me remember that life is short and unforeseen" (right?? amen and amen again).
ReplyDeleteand oh my yes. i'm can't believe that 2016 is SO close. 2015 seemed to pass too fast altogether. this was a beautiful post though <3

ReplyDeleteYep, I can't believe 2015 is going to be gone so soon either. But, I'm looking forward to a new year...because with God anything is possible, and I can't wait to see what He has in store. :)
Anyway, thanks so much for visiting and following my blog, Autumn! (I really like your name, by the way :)! Glad to have found your blog too, and I'm looking forward to reading more posts in the future. All the best for 2016!
YAAAY. That poem is literally the bomb dot com. <3 Touch the Sky sounds lovely, Autumn. Whatever you choose, know that I'll stand with you on your choice.
ReplyDeleteThat poem is hands down amaze stuff. "Turn my heart from vanity." that's my prayer every day <3
ReplyDeleteIt's crazy to think 2016 to coming in like a few days (i'm not ready for it ugh), but it's been a amazing year filled with God's goodness and love.
ps: touch the sky sounds AWESOME. i love both your current one and this one, but if you're thinking of changing it, touch the sky is a great blog name! xx
