the infinite and the finite

  THOU GREAT I AM

Fill my mind with elevation and grandeur at the thought of a Being
with whom one day is a as a thousand years,
and a thousand years as one day,
a mighty God, who, amidst the lapse of worlds,
and the revolutions of empires,
feels no variableness,
but is glorious in immortality.
may I rejoice that, while men die, the Lord lives;
that, while all creatures are broken reeds,
empty cisterns
fading flowers,
withering grass,
HE is Rock of Ages, the Fountain
of living waters.

turn my heart from vanity,
from dissatisfactions,
from uncertainties of the present state,
to an eternal interest in Christ.
let me remember that life is short and
       unforeseen,
and is only an opportunity for usefulness;
give me a holy avarice to redeem the time,
to awake at every call to charity and piety,
so that I may feed the hungry,
clothe the naked,
instruct the ignorant,
reclaim the vicious,
forgive the offender,
diffuse the gospel,
show neighbourly love to all.
let me live a life of self-distrust,
dependence on thyself,
mortification,
crucifixion,

prayer.

-- the valley of vision

heyyy guys :) i hope you all had a very merry christmas yesterday.  i've gotta admit though, it really did not feel like christmas outside yesterday.  it was just rainy and damp and sort of warm.  but, all in all, it was a good day. we made tiramisu for a special treat, and gahhhh.  that stuff is literally so delicous ♥
anyways, i got this book called The Valley of Vision and yeah.  it's epic.  it's a collection of puritan prayers and while it's definitely not in modern day slang-filled English, it's beautiful.  it's poetry expressing the deepest feelings of love and adoration to God.  that prayer up there that you probably just read was one of the ones in there, and yeah. is it not gorgeous? I love reading one of them every day before bed because it's so comforting and brings me back down to reality.  yeah.  so it's pretty much staple.
anyhowwwww....yeah.  can you guys legitly believe that it's gonna be 2016 in less than a week? oh man, that's heavy stuff.  I guess later on this week I should do a 2015 wrap-up post and fun stuff like that.  it seems like I just finished doing my 2014 wrap-ups and woah.  I mean.  where did the time go? life.  life. life. life.

also, yeah, I have one more VERY important question for you all.  you guys are my friends, so I really want to know what you think.  Autumn's Readings & Writings has been the title of this blog since I started it wayyy back in early 2012/late 2011, and even when I was trying to come up with a name for this here blog, I sort of figured that "Autumn's Readings & Writings" was kinda lame and maybe in the future I would change it.  well, I sort of proved the procrastinator in me.  and guys, I was thinking of blog names that IF I would change the title of my blog i'd want to change it to.    but what do you guys think? do you think it'd be good if i'd change the title, or is Autumn's Readings & Writings good?  if I would change it, do you have any ideas? as I was thinking, the top one that I liked was "Touch the Sky".  It means so much, and I just love the meaning behind it.

anyway, well have a beautiful day and smile.  life is amazing and beautiful ^_^

  1. I absolutely love that poem - it's gorgeous. I may have to see about getting that book myself.
AWWWW YESSSS TIRAMISU. I love that stuff. Mmmmm :)
Oh man you're right. We have less than a week left in 2015!
I like AR&W, but if you're not happy with it you should definitely change it. Touch the Sky is nice. It sounds a bit mainstream, but if you like it then go for it! An idea I've bounced around for if I ever rename my blog (which I don't think I ever would - I love the name!) is "Seven Seas" (sort of if your theme is wanderlust/finding yourself or something similar). Hope you find a good name!

  2. That's a beautiful prayer/poem! I'll have to look into that book.
I like the title "Autumn's Readings and Writings" but it's up to you if you want to change it. Possible names could be "Wanderlust", "Autumnasia", "Dream of ____ (insert something you like, i.e. clouds, love, peace, etc.). Hope that helps. :)
PS: This is the blog name generator I used: http://www.spinxo.com/blog-names

  4. The poem is lovely--very thoughtful, too! I love 'Autumn's Readings and Writings', it gets straight to the point of what your blog's about. You'd have brand recognition too if you keep your name. But Touch the Sky has its charm. Also, I like Gloria's 'Autumnasia". Any play on words with 'Autumn' is golden. :)

    1. i agree with ya totally :) that's one of the things i liked about AR&W....it's what my blog is. honestly, it would be so hard to actually get used to calling this blog something else if i would change it. wow. yeah. you're right...i sort of feel people who might've come here a long time ago that decide to come again maybe might not remember it if i would change the title, but yeah. it's a tough choice. yeah, but the thing with that is that since autumn is my pen name, i sort of wanted to take that off the title, but idk. thank you so much, dear jo!

  5. Ah the struggle of having a blog name but wanting to change it even though you've already built an empire around it. Maybe 2016 calls for a name change though? These photos are gorgeous.

  7. okay wow, thank you for posting this poem from the book. I love that you introduced it to us :) That was incredibly beautiful and I love the truths found in it.
I especially love this part: "turn my heart from vanity,
    from dissatisfactions,
from uncertainties of the present state,
to an eternal interest in Christ."
It really is a struggle that I've been dealing with...how can I focus my heart on Christ instead of so many of the things that consume my thoughts?
Plus....I love hte idea of "touch the sky", I really love those nature themed titles :) kuddos to you for coming up with it...I want a new blog title too, and I can't think of anything :(

  9. Wow, thanks for sharing that poem! It's so amazing, and deep. I'm definitely looking up that book! Your photos are great too. The first one is my favourite. :)

Yep, I can't believe 2015 is going to be gone so soon either. But, I'm looking forward to a new year...because with God anything is possible, and I can't wait to see what He has in store. :)
