THE WRITING TAG

06 September 2017

SO a while back I noticed this tag on Micaiah's blog, and it looked really fun.  AS YOU MIGHT HAVE REALIZED, I'm a writer...but I don't really talk a LOT about my writing here on the blog.  Which is completely a paradox considering the fact my blog's title is: Autumn's Readings & WRITINGS.

*ahem*

The writing part is something I scarcely ever touch on, so I figured this post would be a good way for me to actually talk about that a little and tell you guys a little more about what's going on in my WRITING LIFE.  Woo.  (also please don't ask me why my blog is named what it is, ok thanks)

OH MAN.  I write about so many different things, honestly.  Obviously, I have a novel in the works, which is a Christian contemporary fiction.  And I write a ton of short stories; most of them are kid's stories that I write for a few kid's magazines.  I also write devotional articles for another magazine, so it honestly varies a lot.  And if I feel like it, I'll try venturing into something different--like poetry or something.  Over the years I've also tried writing different genres too, but IT'S HARD, BRO.* So, yes, basically--I write about pretty much everything and anything.  It's good.

*Allow me to rephrase: WRITING IS HARD, BRO.
A VERY LONG TIME.  Ever since I could, honestly.  I remember making "books" when I was so little xD I've always just had this passion for words and a camera, honestly.  I don't remember a specific age when I started writing; it's just something I've always done.
Numero uno, I write for God.  I write to inspire. I write to express.  And honestly, I write because I believe stories are one of the most beautiful expressions there is, words are beautiful, and there's something so magical about words weaved together to create something amazing.
So for a long time I never really thought I had a "favorite time of day to write", but now, I'm pretty sure I'm a night writer.  WHICH IS INSANE OK.  I love mornings.  I love getting up early and watching the sun and all the nice things.  But, I'm telling you, if I stay up late and actually stay productive, I WILL write 2x faster at night.  I do not understand this logic at all.  WHAT!?

I love the feeling when I finally finish a first draft xD But I also love when I know my writing inspired someone.  I love the feeling when you have so much to say and the words come flying out of your fingertips and it feels right and good and just comes naturally.  Kinda makes me feel like an actual writer lol
And, I don't know if I can say I necessarily hate any part of it, because ultimately they're all for the better, but there are definitely some parts I intensely dislike.  *coughcougheditingcoughcough* also writer's block.  arhg.

computer, desk, hand
OH LOOK AT THAT the next question is about writer's block xD Erm, well, *fidgets*, I don't know? I don't have a tried-and-true method of overcoming writer's block.  (Some people don't believe in it.  THAT IS HELPFUL.) But when I get writer's block, I usually just stare at the screen and get really frustrated, honestly.  However, one thing that does help me sometimes is reading my words out loud.  Just throwing that out there.  Also disconnect from wifi and force yourself to write.  I've heard it works.

Yeah.  A novel.

XD well, and I'm also brainstorming short story ideas and writing them as soon as I can :))
WELL, this year is flying by and will soon be over, BUT.  Some goals I have for myself in the near future: 1) finish my novel, 2) write short stories more consistently, and 3) plot for a future novel/sequel.  (Plot, because I'm the worst at that xD)

SO WHAT ABOUT YOU? How's your writing going? Any big projects you've been working on? let's talk!

  5. Wow, Autumn's secret life! I knew you were a writer (and working on a novel, I think), but I didn't know you regularly have stories and articles published. That's awesome. Who do you write devotional articles for?

And amen to your answer for number three. God used words to create us and our world, and I always think it's incredible we have the privilege to create with them too. xx

  6. That's awesome that you write for kid's magazines it sounds super fun! Writers block is the worst! When you love to write but have no ideas. Such an annoying thing! I feel like I could become a night time writer but lights out at 10 since I share a room with my sister. RIP all the creative ideas I might or might not have!

  9. I just stumbled across your blog...greetings, fellow writer! I'm writing a novel...well, technically speaking, three or four, but I'm only steadily working on one for the moment...it was my first major writing idea, really, and through it I've come to realize that writing is HARD. Like what. I thought I was supposed to be randomly inspired and crank a novel in two days. Little did I know....xD

  10. YAS NIGHT WRITERS UNITE!!!! Seriously though, why do all the creative juices have to flow at 12am? I WANT TO SLEEP.... but I also want to write, so...
I've heard the best way to overcome writer's block is to just sit down with paper and pencil, and just force yourself to write something. It doesn't necessarily have to be something new, you could also go over previous works and do a little editing to get the creative juices flowing.
